Sundroid Sunrise Sunset

Ever wanted to know exactly when the sun is due to rise or set, when the moon will make an early evening appearence when its still light, or where a planet such as jupiter might be visible.

The Sundroid Sunrise Sunset app for android devices is all that and more.. I was really impressed by the level of detail that is available in an app. Whilst there is a free version, I plumped for the pro version at GBP 1.99.

It is extrmely useful for many reasons, however my main reason is photogrpahy. It allows me to know when to get to a good spot at the right time. I had never realised before now that there is a Golden Hour after sunrise and before sunset when the sun is at an optimal angle for good photos.

It has many other great features including:

  • Sunrise and sunset times with azimuths
  • Civil, nautical and astronomical twilight times
  • Solar noon with elevation
  • Golden hours
  • Length of daylight
  • Rise, set and transit times for the moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
  • Lunar phase and illuminated fraction
  • Track the azimuth and elevation of the sun, moon and planets individually or together
  • Solar and lunar eclipses 2000-2020
  • Solstices and equinoxes 2000-2020
  • Earth aphelion and perihelion 2000-2020

Most of the above I will probably never use.. but interesting non-the less.
